Note on standardization

There is an on-going effort to harmonize international standards. The dominating standard is based on IEC 60065, 2nd Edition, “Safety requirements for mains operated electronic and related apparatus for household and similar general use.”

On January 1, 2006, UL 6500 will be the only UL standard available for radios, CD players, tape players and similar equipment. A comparison of the requirements in UL 6500 to the requirements in UL 1270 and UL 1492 has been developed. For this detailed comparison, please refer to our UL 6500 Comparison page.
