global solution to all your safety needs for luminaries.
In this
section you’ll find information on the following
types of products:

Luminaires,
Fixtures
- Surface mounted luminaires, including floor-,
wall-, ceiling-, and pole-mounted luminaires.
- Low voltage fixtures and fixture fittings
that are parts and/or subassemblies intended
for final assembly into low voltage fixtures
in the field. These are rated 30 V or less,
for connection to an isolating type power supply
evaluated for this use and installed using fixed
wiring methods.
- Track lighting systems for installation on
or recessed into ceilings and walls. These are
intended to be connected to a source of supply
by a fixed wiring method.
- Luminaires for installation in recessed cavities
in walls, in outdoor canopies and marquees.
- Stage and studio luminaires and connector
strips rated 600 V or less. These are not intended
for residential use.

Portable
Luminaires
Includes
all bulb types of the following devices:
- Although they are all portable luminaires
they fall under separate UL Standards: Portable
Electric Lamps - UL 153, Christmas Tree and
Decorative Outfits - UL 588; Portable Electric
Hand Lamps - UL 298, Portable Sun and Heat Lamps
- UL 482, etc;
- Portable electric hand lamps with incandescent
or fluorescent lamp rated 300 watts or less.
The incandescent type have a length of flexible
cord and an attachment plug for connection to
a source of supply, an insulating handle, a
lamp guard, and provisions for temporary support.
The fluorescent type have a lamp reflector assembly,
a length of flexible cord with either an in-line
ballast and attachment plug or a direct plug-in
type ballast;
- Various types of portable, movable, and relocatable
lamps and associated products, of all lamp (bulb)
types. It includes both free standing and mountable
lighting products, work area lights, outdoor
flood/decoration and spot lights.
Note, products are not intended for installation
in recessed walls or ceilings, or in permanently
installed cabinets where wiring is concealed
or passed through openings in the structure.

Luminaire
Ballasts
The term
“Ballast” may include the following types of devices:
- Fluorescent lamp ballasts for both alternating
and direct current. The ballasts are high frequency
electronic, resistor, choke (reactor) coil,
or transformer of the isolating or auto type
for controlling the starting and operating voltages
and currents of a fluorescent lamp. Ballasts
are evaluated with their respective lamps and
lampholders to determine the risk of electric
shock during relamping.
- High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamp ballasts
of the following types: mercury vapor, metal
halide, high pressure sodium and low pressure
sodium.
- Fluorescent ballasts and fluorescent lamp
power reducers, fluorescent lamp life extenders,
high intensity discharge (HID) lamp high-low
dimmers, HID lamp starters, electromagnetic
interference filters, and related miscellaneous
devices. These devices are for field installation,
in accordance with their installation instructions,
into lighting fixtures, which have already been
tested, employing fluorescent or high intensity
discharge lamps.
