For some years there
has been discussion of an international standard
(ISO) for health and safety management and that
standard has been published as OHSAS 18001.
OHSAS 18001 is structured to be compatible with
ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001. The document contains
5 main sections, namely:
- Occupational health and safety policy
- Planning
- Implementation and operation
- Checking and corrective action
- Management review
As an adjunct to existing UL management system
clients (ISO 9001, ISO 14001), UL can provide
assessment services against OHSAS 18001. This
can either be done as a stand-alone assessment
or as part of an integrated assessment programme
with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 or both.
To ensure the high integrity of the UL service
is maintained and to ensure we provide an efficient
service, UL ensure that the assessors have detailed
knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety
Management and of relevant legislation within
the country concerned.
