Argentina
has a mandatory compliance law: Resolution 92/98.
In effect since August 18, 1998, it applies
to electrical and electronic products marketed
in Argentina. The scope of Resolution 92/98
covers electrical and electronic equipment that
fall within the electrical rating range of:

Electrical products completely exempt from resolution
92/98 are:
- Medical devices including dental
and laboratory, their parts and accessories.
These products are regulated by the National
Administration of Medicine, Food and Medical
Technology.
Products such as ambient lighting for clinical
use, clinical beds and stretchers, dental
furniture and similar equipment which include
electrical devices must comply with resolution
92/98 requirements.
- All electrical material and equipment specifically
designed for exclusive use in road vehicles,
ships, airships, railroads and other means
of transport.
Products
exempted also include:
- Industrial process equipment that require
trained operators, except portable devices;
- Industrial equipment and apparatus for
measurement and control and automation of
operations and processes;
- Data process equipment under Article 7 of
Resolution 173, published on March 15, 1999;
- Memory units, except those that require
an external power supply;
- Telecommunication equipment, auxiliary
and associated apparatus, except subscriber
terminals of any type;
- Telecommunication control and adaptation
units and signal conversion units;
- Telephone and wireless exchange equipment,
except private telephone systems with an internal
line capacity of equal to or less than 25;
- Professional equipment for radio-telephony,
wireless or broadcasting;
- Internal modems used to transmit data,
or external types used for public services,
TV or radio communications;
- All types of lamps greater than 1000W;
and
- Imported electrical/electronic components
intended to be locally integrated in a manufacturing
process.
UL
de Argentina Assistance Program
To
assist you in complying with Argentinean mandatory
requirements, UL de Argentina has been accredited
by the OAA and recognized by the DNCI as an
official Certification Organization.
UL de Argentina can certify all products under
Resolution 92/98, including information technology
equipment (printers, scanners, monitors, etc.),
household appliances, luminaries (e.g., lighting
fixtures) and audio/video equipment and authorize
the manufacturers to apply DNCI’s Safety
Mark - the "S" Mark and the "AR-UL"
Mark.
Compliance
to IEC or IRAM Standards
Resolution 92/98 requires compliance to IEC
or IRAM standards. Existing information and
test data used to get the UL certification or
an IECEE CB Scheme Report issued by UL, can
be used to obtain the Argentine certification.
Please note that evaluations in accordance with
UL or IEC Standards must consider the Argentinean
deviations such as voltage and plug requirements.

UL and Argentine Product Certification
Mark
As
of October 29, 1999 Argentina’s Secretary
of Industry, Trade and Mining requires products
that fall under their jurisdiction namely, but
not limited to:
- low voltage electrical equipment,
- toys,
- safety enclosures for hazardous products
used domestically,
- cement and steel used in construction,
and
- devices for gas
to
bear this mark once they comply with the applicable
Argentine requirements.
